Currency Creek Accommodation

Currency Creek is a small town on the Fleurieu Peninsula roughly six kilometres north of Goolwa. Named in the 1830s after a whaling ship named the Currency Lass, the area began as a potential outlet to the ocean that did not pan out. Used as a base in the area, the grasslands led to agriculture, and the town has evolved considerably since then. Today, there is an arboretum and an entire wine region named after this town.

Why Currency Creek?

From your Currency Creek accommodation, you can explore both an enjoyable little town and the surrounding countryside. As well, being so close to Goolwa makes the stay in your Fleurieu Peninsula accommodation that much better, as you have access to still more amenities. As well, the local wine industry is a great way to explore the rich tastes that this area is well known for. Beyond these things, the local arboretum is a great place to see a lot of native eucalypt species in one place.

Interesting Things To See And Do?

The Currency Creek Winery is a great place to go for something refreshing and to experience the great local blends. Beyond this winery, there are many others in the entire region that are worthwhile to visit. Growing chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, almost every taste is well accounted for. This is also a fairly undiscovered industry, with the first vintage only being produced in 1972. As well, the local Arboretum specializes in the study of the various types of eucalypt plants found throughout Australia. As well, Ballast Stone Estate Wines also distributes some of the area's top vintages.

Top Local Attractions

The nearby town of Goolwa makes excellent use of Currency Creek holiday rentals. One great place to stop into is Hector's, which carries the vibe of a boathouse and munching spinach-fetta pie and seafood chowder. With jazz playing and tasty local wines and coffee, the atmosphere is complete and very satisfying.

If a good stout or ale is your pleasure, you might check out the Steam Exchange Brewery. Locally run, this brewery puts out some strong brews and is located right on the wharf. If a pizza is more your thing, you might try Southy's Wood Fired Pizzas where you can choose from satay chicken, tandoori lamb and yiros.

Beyond the local eateries, you might take a long hike through Granite Island Nature Park. Covered in boulders, you can simply hang around and picnic or take a guided sunset tour of the areas where penguins haul themselves onto the shore.

Why Choose A Rental?

When you choose to stay in a rental home, you can enjoy all the fun the area has to offer as if you were a local. This is an area that is steeped in rich history and loaded down with delicious food that you can experience the same way a local would. From the base of your rental, you can explore the area in an economical fashion and see it all while enjoy the space, privacy and independence of a true home away from home.

Family holiday home with a million dollar view

4 of 5
Staying here reminded me of childhood holidays . It's a basic original 1960's house, witha million dollar view. Fabulous for families who don't want to worry that the little ones will leave a mark on the wall. We felt right at home here. Great position walking distance to town, but away from the crowds. Two showers were handy for after the swims across the road. The only problem was we arrived in the only heat wave to hit Vicor in a decade and there is only a portable airconditioner. Double bricks kept it cool for a couple of days but then had escape to the movies and shops to cool off.
