Relaxing on the Tasmania East Coast

The East Coast of Tasmania offers a beach holiday that wouldn’t feel out of place amongst its neighbouring South Pacific Islands. Dramatic stretches of perfect white sands lure tourists in and once ensconced within your holiday villa on Tasmania’s East Coast, you are unlikely to want to leave.

Seeing the sights

From a treasure trove of natural wonders to relaxing over locally produced food, most holiday makers spend their time living the relaxed lifestyle that the East Coast of Tasmania encourages.

The East Coast of Tasmania has a wealth of accommodation options with self-contained apartments and holiday villas being popular choices for those on a budget and also proving to be great family-friendly accommodation. Award winning eco-lodges are an increasingly popular holiday rental choice on the East Coast Tasmania and add an element of rustic charm to your stay.

In a spot that is resplendent with fine sands and crystal clear water, it is no surprise that most of the activities on the East Coast of Tasmania are sand or water based. World renowned Wineglass Bay offers excellent conditions for kayaking while diving to shipwreck sites off Flinders Bay is the perfect underwater exploration. Sticking to dry land, leave behind the mod-cons of your holiday accommodation and take a trek to any of the secluded beaches and coves that transport you to a lifestyle of island living.

If all this activity is not for you, bathing on the warm sands is the perfect way to unwind, punctuated only by a long and lazy lunch and al fresco evening meals. Fresh seafood exists in abundance on the East Coast of Tasmania and tastes great accompanied with a glass of local wine.

Those wanting to explore beyond walking distance of their holiday accommodation on Tasmania’s East Coast will find no less than three National Parks to explore, but with plenty to do in your immediate vicinity you’d be forgiven for not stretching much further than the beach.

When to visit

The majority of holiday makers heading to the East Coast of Tasmania are seeking sun and December to March is the best time to visit during Australian summertime. But be sure to pack an extra layer as even summertime temperatures tend to idle around 20 to 22 degrees Celsius. Winter time, in May to August, doesn’t see temperatures drop dramatically low and often has warmth of between 13 to 16 degrees Celsius, making beach strolls a pleasant activity even if you visit outside of the peak summer months.

To make the most of the warmth and sunlight, book a holiday rental in the East Coast of Tasmania which faces the sun and, as is commonly advised, pack for all weather occasions as the climate can be changeable in this part of the world.

Getting there

A choice of airlines fly from around the UK to Australia including Singapore Airlines, Qantas, Virgin, Emirates, BMI and Cathay Pacific. The East Coast of Tasmania is reachable from the airports of Hobart, Launceton and Davenport, and flying in to Australia’s mainland first, followed by a separate travel to Hobart is likely to offer the greatest variety of flying options from the UK in terms of carriers and regional airports.

Book a holiday rental for a night or two in Melbourne, the closest main city, and from there Jetstar, Virgin and Qantas all fly to Launceton.

Within Tasmania, hiring a car is a popular option for getting to your holiday accommodation, but be careful when driving as the natural ruggedness and beauty of the East Coast of Tasmania can make for slow travel. Although the spectacular views on the coastal drive from Hobart are worthing taking your time over.

Those searching for a more decadent means of getting to the East Coast of Tasmania should investigate the Spirit of Tasmania ferry, which operates year round between Melbourne and the port of Davenport.

Relaxing and cosy!

5 of 5
We had such a lovely stay at Burgess. The cottage is cosy and it’s in a great location - the beach over the road and the Lichen Restaurant next door! Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer. We’ll be back! Thanks Jan :)

Kingfisher Cottage is Lovely

4 of 5
A beautiful, relaxed cottage with stunning views of the beach and sea. Very comfortable, with almost everything you need. We were surprised to find there was not an oven available, only a microwave and cooktop.
