Are you looking for a holiday destination that lets you get away from it all? Consider spending your holidays in Eastern View, Victoria, Australia. The small township is directly beachside, so moving from your rental accommodation to the sand and sea is no more than a short walk. High quality rental homes in the area mean that you can get away from the bustle of the city without sacrificing all modern conveniences.
Since the major benefit of Eastern View proper is quiet relaxation, you may not be interested in filling your days and nights with a stream of activity. However, don’t miss out on seeing all that the area has to offer. Instead, plan on taking a little longer time during the drive from the airport. Your drive along the Great Ocean Road will provide excellent vistas of ocean and beach and forest. By adding a few stops along the way, you can increase the enjoyment of your drive and arrive at your holiday rental in Eastern View with a wealth of experiences already under your belt.
The Great Ocean Road’s origin is in the city of Torquay, Australia’s home of surfing. Stop off here to begin your education on the nation’s surfing culture. You can see the headquarters of both RipCurl and Quicksilver, as well as visiting the Surfworld Museum. You can pick up Surf Wax in the gift shop for souvenirs – your friends back home won’t have any idea what to do with it, but it will be a great conversation starter!
Continuing along the Great Ocean Road, a further 20-minute drive brings you to the town of Anglesea. Depending on your holiday timing, you may be fortunate enough to visit during one of the annual riverbank markets. These are held at different times of the year, and feature up to 200 stalls selling local handicrafts and produce.
If you are an avid golfer, consider stopping off at the Anglesea golf course for 9 or 18 holes. The 6,074-meter, par 73 course is typically crowded with kangaroos, which adds another level of challenge. For the record, if you hit a kangaroo, you still play the ball where it lies after the collision!
Your next stop is 20 minutes further along the road, at the Split Point Lighthouse in the town of Airey’s Inlet. Though the light is now running on electrical power and is fully automated, it was built to run on vaporized kerosene when it first came into operation in 1891. The lighthouse is open to the public with regular guided tours running on weekends and during school holidays, but tours at other times can be booked as well.
By this point, you should be ready for some good exercise in the fresh air. The town of Mogg’s Creek is a five-minute drive from Airey’s Inlet, and offers the Mogg’s Creek Circuit. This is a bushwalk along the eponymous creek, and takes about thirty minutes to complete. This is a great way to break up the middle of the day. After you’re all tired out, its time to head on to your holiday home away from home in Eastern View, only 7 minutes away by car.
Eastern View’s weather is welcoming in all seasons. Regardless of whether your holidays are in summer or winter, you’ll be well set weather-wise. If you visit in January and February, daytime temperatures are typically around 22 degrees Celsius, and nighttime lows will drop down to 14 – 14.5 degrees Celsius. Cooler weather prevails during June and July, with daytime highs reaching only 13 to 13.5 degrees. Nights are brisk, with an average low of 7.5 to 8.5 degrees.
Setting up everything for your holiday in Eastern View is quite easy. Once your holiday rental home is booked, proceed to select your flights. Holidaymakers from the UK have a plethora of options for flights, as all the major carriers offer multiple daily departures from the London airports. Once you’ve arrived in Melbourne, hire a car for the drive down to Eastern View along the Great Ocean Road. Then enjoy the view during your drive, enjoy the sun and surf during your stay, and start making plans for your next visit!
