Nature Breaks on Kangaroo Island

Set off the coast of South Australia, Kangaroo Island is a serene natural paradise. The expansive island measures approximately 150 kilometres in length and features an impressive 540 kilometres of pristine coastal. In this natural paradise, white sandy beaches meet vast open wilderness and modern city features to give visitors an unforgettable experience. While Kangaroo Island has a secluded feel, there are actually just under 5,000 permanent residents, many of which descend from the original farmers of the island's lush lands. The permanent residences of Kangaroo Island sit next to rentable beach houses, self-contained holiday homes further inland and even apartments, in some cases, and this brings locals and visitors together for a great experience.

Amazing Animal Encounters

While on holiday on Kangaroo Island, visitors are likely to see wildlife wherever they go. The island has a large population of docile kangaroos and wallabies, and there are koalas just about everywhere. Thousands of seals make their home at Seal Bay, and other species such as platypus, snakes and possum make their home on the island. One of the best ways to experience all of the animals, reptiles and marine creatures this holiday destination has to offer is by taking one of many guided tours. Four-wheel drive vehicles are the most popular touring method, and this gives visitors unlimited access to the bush, coast and everywhere in between. The island also boasts wildlife sanctuaries and conversation areas that provide up-close looks of animals in a more contained environment.

The Waters of Kangaroo Island

Beautiful in every way, the coastline of Kangaroo Island is where the majority of the action is found. The waters surrounding the destination are warm and house a great variety of fish, which makes the island a premier fishing destination. Visitors have the option to cast a line off of the island's jetty, off one of the many beaches or from a boat out in the water. To see the colourful fish and marine species in their natural habitats, as well as 60-someodd shipwrecks and breathtaking coral formations, snorkelling and diving are popular options around Kangaroo Island. Calm, crystal-clear swimming areas sit near rougher surfing areas to give everyone a chance to enjoy the ocean.

Though a scenic destination, Kangaroo Island's seclusion from the mainland and untainted grounds make the perfect platform for farming. As such, the food on the island, is extremely fresh and pure deliciousness. Fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses and even specialty items like honey are all regionally harvested. Additionally, the close proximity to water puts lobster, fish, oysters and other seafood delicacies within easy reach. Visitors of this holiday destination have access to a great selection of locally influenced restaurants, and for those who want to experiment with ingredients on their own, there are regular farmers markets on Kangaroo Island.

Food is not the only offering on the island; on the contrary, vineyards have a prominent place on Kangaroo Island's landscape. There are over 25 growers spread over the island, which is recognized as an official Australian wine growing region. Lush, fruity varietals of wine are grown at this destination, and to sample them all, take a wine tour of the region.

Extreme Adventure

On land, the adventure opportunities are extremely diverse and are setup to suit visitors of all types. Like the idea of surfing but want to avoid the water? Try sand surfing. The sand dunes at Vivonne Bay are the perfect playground for sandboards and toboggans alike. Instruction is available for beginners, though experienced boarders are free to play on their own. Quad bike tours are another way to experience Kangaroo Island while getting your adrenaline going. Haven from winter storms

5 of 5
Beachcomber was a delightful, well-appointed property from which the rolling winter storms could be viewed. A great location to be based exploring the eastern side of Kangaroo Island. A modern home, with every convenience, it made travelling with a family easy. Fiona was endlessly helpful with accessing what we needed for the house, as well as when the weather looked like the ferries would not be running.

Fantastic location...remote, isolated and unbelievable view. House was very warm and cosy.

Our family ( including 3 teenage kids) loved the house and location. Great walks at your doorstep. We experienced 3 beautiful sunsets sitting on the veranda with the wallabies. Saw an echidna, sea eagles and lots of koalas on the property. The owners did a great job in giving us as much information as possible regarding our stay on kangaroo island. Would highly recommend this property to anyone who is keen to escape the real world for a few day or if your lucky enough longer. Would definitely choose this place again.
