Lake Tyers Beach - A peaceful haven

Lake Tyers Beach is a fishing and resort village in Australia’s Gippsland Lakes. It’s a short drive away from Lakes Entrance, which is the main tourist hub of Victoria. This means that you’ve got all the advantages of staying close to a busy holiday town, but can choose accommodation in Lake Tyers that’s far away from the crowds. Lake Tyers may be a small, quiet place, but there are several holiday apartments and holiday houses on offer, and you’ll easily be able to find one to suit your needs.

Gone fishing

Lake Tyers is a quiet village, and activities on offer tend to be very relaxing. A typical day involves waking at your holiday accommodation and preparing and eating a hearty breakfast, before heading out for the day.

Fishing is popular, and you can also hire a boat and set off onto the lake. Walking is also excellent, and you can explore hidden coves and trails, spending hours without encountering another soul.

If you want to do something less active, then you can sunbathe on the beach. If you’re looking for lunch, then there’s a pub which does good food and is a fine place to meet the locals – or you can pick up a picnic at one of the regular farmers markets.

Alternatively, you might be looking for something to get your adrenaline going. Red Bluff is one of the best locations for surfing in the Gippsland Lake – you can get lessons if you’re a beginner.

At the end of the day, you can either head to the pub or have a barbecue at your holiday rental. Lake Tyers Beach is the perfect spot to open a few beers, grill some sausages and enjoy the stars.

An easy climate

The hottest time of year is January, when the average maximum temperature is 25C. If you want to enjoy the heat as part of a relaxed family holiday, then book self-contained accommodation with its own swimming pool, barbecue and plenty of garden space.

In the winter, July and August, the temperature drops to around 16C. It may be cooler, but this is the perfect time of year for walking and fishing, as you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Gippsland Lakes without getting too hot.

Practicalities – getting there and staying

Most international visitors land at Melbourne Airport, which is around three hours’ drive away. Sydney is further, and it’s possible to combine a stop at Lake Tyers Beach with a journey between Melbourne and Sydney or Melbourne and Canberra if you’re travelling around Australia.

This area is perfect for dogs, who love swimming and walking as much as their humans – it is easy to find pet friendly holiday homes in Lake Tyers Beach.

Peak season for the Gippsland Lakes is in December and January, particularly during the Australian school holidays. If you are intending to come at this time of year, then you should book your serviced apartment or holiday villa in Lake Tyers Beach well in advance.

Perfect for two families

5 of 5
We stayed here with 5 adults and 3 toddlers under two! It was perfect set up for us all. We enjoyed the small and safe yard for the kids and the easy walk to the footbridge and shops. The owners were easy to communicate with and the house had all that we needed to be comfortable. We will totally consider staying here again!
