Get away from it all in the quaint town of Manyana, in New South Wales. With fabulous beaches and a national park that reaches right to the shore, Manyana is a terrific place to kick back and unwind with a marvellous selection of holiday rentals to choose from.
A popular destination for both Sydney-siders and residents of Australia’s capital city, Canberra, Manyana is a super place to sample the amazing outdoor life so beloved of Australians. Surfing, diving, swimming and fishing are naturally popular but those keen to discover more about the area’s heritage and history will find themselves spoiled for choice.
Come on, dive in
Manyana is situated on a headland in the Shoalhaven region of New South Wales’s South Coast, around 220km south of Sydney and the same distance east of the nation’s capital, Canberra. Close by on the headland is Bendalong and the two towns share some beautiful beaches that are ideal for surfing and swimming. Many of the holiday houses and apartments available in Manyana offer ocean views to make the very most of a beach holiday.
Washerwoman’s Beach is one of the most popular, while families will love the inlet at Cunjurong where youngsters can paddle safely at low tide. The surf near Green Island – accessed from Cunjurong Point near Manyana – is considered the best in the area with board riding particularly popular here.
Boat ramps along the beaches demonstrate the great fishing available off shore. While the majority of big game fishing happens further up the coast, boat charters are available for those keen to land the likes of snapper or bream that are plentiful in these waters. At the Bendalong and Washerwoman’s beach boat ramps, watch the local fishermen cleaning their catch and feeding the scraps to the stingrays crowding the water.
Scuba diving is popular off the Manyana beaches while there is also the opportunity to take part in spear fishing in the beautifully clear waters. Head for Ulladulla, just 15 minutes’ drive from Manyana, for boat diving. And Jervis Bay, a world heritage listed marine park, is around 40 minutes’ drive north where the diving is said to be the best in Australia after the Great Barrier Reef.
Close to Manyana is Narrawallee Creek Nature Reserve, a stunning park that stretches down to the coast and offers a unique view of the vegetation that once covered the entire South Coast. Estuarine wetlands and bird breeding areas are also part of the nature reserve so those keen on bird watching will be in their element. Try bush walking, too, and get up close and personal with the natural flora and fauna of the region.
Fishermen and boaters won’t want to miss Lake Conjola with its waters teeming with bream, whiting, tailor, flathead and black fish.
The sunshine state
Manyana enjoys a temperate climate that is typical of New South Wales. There are around 340 days of sunshine every year and the average summer temperature is 23°C – be aware, however, that things can get much hotter on the coast because of the sea breeze, so care should be taken with sunscreen during the summer months. Manyana’s wonderful beach location makes it the ideal summer destination and with holiday houses, the town is a great base for further exploring around Shoalhaven.
