Metung – A Lakeside Getaway
Metung is a very peaceful village, between Melbourne and Sydney. It’s on the shores of the Gippsland Lakes. It is an upmarket holiday destination that’s perfect for a romantic getaway as well as a peaceful family holiday, or even a simple stop-over in a serviced apartment when travelling between the two major cities. Visitors are welcome to join in at most of these events, and they will give you a chance to speak to local people and make friends. In the summer, which is the wettest time of year, the average temperature is 24C. If you want to spend as much time as possible outside your Metung accommodation sunbathing on the beach, come in December and January. However, the temperature is pleasant year-round, although gets a little cooler in winter; in June, July and August, the temperature dips to around 15C.
Getting to Metung
Most visitors from the UK who come to Metung fly to either Sydney or Melbourne, and journey between these two cities. Metung lies just over 300 km from Melbourne and can be reached within one day of leisurely driving. Metung lies 700 km from Sydney, with Canberra a major destination along the route.
