Well, odd though it may sound, some people believe that Miami on the Gold Coast of Australia is much better than its namesake in Florida. Not only is the weather better for most of the year, the accommodation on offer ranges from the cheap and cheerful to the most luxurious, and the crime rate is far less than its American cousin! All that being said, it is a sea-side venue par excellence, with wildlife in abundance too, so there is never a bad time to fly out of the UK for an extended visit. Accommodation in Miami comes in all forms, from luxurious holiday villas and serviced apartments to holiday homes overlooking the many bays. The difficulty is picking just one!
Places to See, Things to Do in Miami
Australia Zoo is a great place to start off the holiday. Families still shaking off the jet lag, and trying to get used to the warmer weather of course, will want to take a ‘walk on the wild side’ at this stunning location. Families get to have a great encounter with the bird feeding shows etc. A whole army of parakeets, cockatiels and rosella abound and they are so used to visitors, they eat right off the extended palms. There are hundreds of birds within the aviary so there are plenty of opportunities to feed them here.
Everyone loves the beach of course and Miami has then in abundance as with the accommodation on offer. All along the beach there are huge play areas for the kids so, when they get tired of being in the water, they will still have plenty of things to do.
For the holiday maker, Dunlop’s Canal is a great place to start a fishing trip. In the same venue, Pizzy Park also has a swimming complex, facilities for skating and other entertainment to keep everyone on their feet.
Staying with the water theme, it is so warm here that people will always look for ways to cool off, the Wet ‘n’ Wild Park is just the place to be. Old and young can splash away on the water slides etc and this is one of the most popular theme parks around.
Dreamworld and Sea World are great destinations for the whole family and they will surely have some great memories to take home with them. Dreamworld offers thirteen different worlds all in one venue. Everything is here from the fastest and highest rides to the interactive shows that kids just love. Try out Tiger Island where the Bengal and Sumatran tigers have a cool swim every day to the delight of the onlookers. Or, mingle with the second largest colony of koalas. Wombats and kangaroos are here and the visitors can even get up close and personal with giant crocodiles as well!
Nature lovers will be accommodated here because they have an ‘adopt an animal’ programme. This is a really cool way to give something back to nature to ensure that the animals will still be there where our grandchildren come to pay a visit.
Some of the accommodation on offer will have their own private or shared swimming pools and this is a great idea for the ‘down’ days when the family just wants to relax. This may be absolutely necessary since the summer months can get quite hot.
Although there is plenty to do in Miami, some people like to get out and about a little and to this end, Burleigh Heads is not far away. Naturally, there are beaches all along this area so just trying out several is a neat way to get a change of scenery every day. However, in Burleigh Heads the environment is a little more laid back. There are few high rise buildings and this may be a better place to find accommodation for those who do not want a busy time of things. The Tallebudgera Creek Estuary north side has been deemed to be a National Park. All along the creek families can use the barbecue and picnic facilities for those times when something quiet is on the menu. Burleigh Beach itself is renowned for the surfing and there are many schools which will teach anyone who wants to give this exciting sport a try. Kayaking and boating is also popular and all crafts are for hire.
As this is a tourist’s paradise, there is plenty of accommodation to go round. Holiday villas or self-contained accommodation is in plentiful supply and even those on slimmer budgets are catered for. Holiday rentals are a great way to move around the area of the Gold Coast so taking a few nights in several places is a great idea.
How to Get to Miami Australia
Travel from the UK is easy these days and most major airlines will fly into Brisbane or the Gold Coast. Book the holiday villa or accommodation before departure to save on time when arriving. Transfers can be pre-booked too and this ensures a speedy onward journey once the family has landed.
The Climate in Miami
Just likes its namesake, this Miami is warm throughout the year. The cooler months from June to November are not really cool by UK standards and may be better for those who don’t like it too hot. Don’t forget to book a place with a pool for long lazy days at home and many holiday villas or serviced apartments have them as standard.
