Holiday Accommodation in Myrtleford, NSW, Australia

Myrtleford is a small town located right in the heart of the picturesque Great Alpine Road, in the agricultural hub between Wangaratta and Bright. With many choices for holiday accommodation and holiday rentals, visitors come from all over the world to experience the beauty of this stunning mountain village retreat.

Nestled below a back drop of some of the most incredible thick forests and mountain ranges, the town of Myrtleford is becoming more and more popular among holiday makers wanting to get away from the hectic pace of city life.

Things to See and Do

Mount Buffalo National Park

This nature based, eco-tourism national park offers visitors the chance to reconnect with natural surroundings with some of the most spectacular sites and views. An outdoor playground for all ages, during all seasons, visitors can choose from the more sedate Gorge Heritage Walk, and retreat under the cool foliage of the park, taking in the abundance of wild flowers during the summer months.

At Lake Cantani, visitors flock to the water’s edge to enjoy a day of picnics, canoeing, nature walks, BBQ’s, and even swopping their luxury holiday accommodation for a temporary holiday home and camping near the picturesque lake.

The panoramic scenery, rugged cliff edges, cascading waterfalls, snow gums and carpets of wild flowers in the summer are just some of the reasons nature lovers come out to this stunning part of Myrtleford. For the more intrepid visitor, the park features rock climbing and hang-gliding spots and more than 90km or hiking and cycling trails through the forest.

During the winter months, the park becomes a snow covered wonderland paradise and playground for all those winter sports enthusiasts. With the arrival of the first snow fall, the rolling hills and gentle slopes provide the skiing enthusiasts with an entire ski trail to enjoy. Cross country skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing are just some of the family activities that can be enjoyed at the park in the winter. Log fires in the holiday accommodation and marshmallows and hot chocolate are sure to get the kids excited for their winter holiday. Let’s not forget a hot toddy or two for the adults!

The Horn Picnic area is located right at the very top of the highest point of Mount Buffalo, some 1723 m above sea level. The hiking trail, the Horn Track, will take hikers about an hour to navigate the 1.5 km walking trail up to the picnic area. The stunning panoramic views that stretch right over the plateau to the Australian Alps offer a 360 degree view and the perfect back drop to an epic picnic.

Town life

For visitors who want to see more of Myrtleford than just the beauteous surroundings, sites of interest include the Tobacco Co-op (you can’t miss the Big Cigarette!) with the traditional wooden tobacco kilns. Then, there’s a carved red gum tree at the western entrance to the town known as the Phoenix Tree , a definite unique photo opportunity.

Wine buffs will be pleased to know there are a few wineries in the area. Visit the vineyards, or be in town for the Myrtleford Festival when all the local produce is showcased with plenty of tastings to tuck into and sup.

Climate

Myrtleford has warm summer months between October and April and balmy summer temperatures averaging between 32C and 21C. With the huge array of activities all year round, all you have to do is decide if you want to go tobogganing or water skiing. Amazing bush break for the family!

5 of 5
We had a wonderful and relaxing stay at Sawyers lodge. Ian was a great host and made us feel very welcome during our stay at the cabin. It did not take us long to acclimatise to our peaceful and pristine surrounds and our children and dog were thrilled to have the wide open bush as their backyard! The cabin is everything and more than we expected! Its eco design is clever and beautiful, but there is no scrimping on comfort! We had everything we needed to make our stay fab! We will definitely be back in the future. Thanks Ian & Leanne!

Excellent property

4 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here at Great View Jan 2018. The location is perfect if you want to centrally place your self for gorgeous bike trails and wine tours. Myrtleford is more of a small town feel compared to Bright but still has amazing food, coffee etc.. The owners have really thought about all of the details and the place was immaculate, fresh towels, maps, ideas of where to visit, spa warmed and wine chilled on arrival. The apartment is part of a bigger property which took us by surprise on arrival however were very pleased we stayed on to enjoy the more important parts this place has to offer.
