Nelson Accommodation

Nelson is a small town known for fishing in Victoria. Located on the mouth of the Glenelg River and Discovery Bay, this is a great place for boating, sailing, canoeing, and more. Nelson holiday rentals are about 420 kilometers from Melbourne and are often associated with an exploration of the Great Ocean Road. If you're looking for a quiet rental to use as a homebase in this region, check out the options available in Nelson.

Why Nelson?

Travellers choose Nelson accommodation for several reasons. Many properties overlook the gorgeous Glenelg River, where you can put your feet up on a deck and watch boats cruising along the water. It's also a perfect spot for bird watching and bush walking. For a romantic retreat or a family adventure, properties in Nelson will be ideal.

What To See And Do?

One of the most popular activities in Nelson is the Nelson Endeavour River Boat. This cruise explores the Glenelg River that winds its way for over 400 kilometers inland. A highlight of the cruise is passing through a dramatic river gorge, home to 50 metre stunning cliffs. Here, the river has carved its way through the soft limestone to create a beautiful, natural attraction.

Adventurous travellers will find many other ways to enjoy the river as well. Fun options include kayaking or canoeing, fishing or sailing. You can explore the river independently or hire a local guide for a boat charter and tour. Beyond the river, Nelson is also close to the ocean. Plan a day at Discovery Bay and you can check out the huge sand dunes at the beach or spend a few hours surfing.

A trip to Nelson wouldn't be complete without visiting the Princess Margaret Rose Caves. This is one of the most incredible limestone caves in the country and offers guided tours. Set food in this fascinating cave system that is said to date back at least 700,000 years. Here, stalagmites and stalactites date reach over six metres in length.

Top Local Attractions

Nelson is a big draw for outdoor enthusiasts. The Lower Glenelg National Park is a great place for spending time hiking, fishing, and canoeing. This park is also a great place for encountering local wildlife, including everything from a platypus to an echidna to kangaroos and koalas. Be sure to bring your camera to capture all of this wildlife in its natural environment.

The region also has other wildlife attractions including dolphin tours. Sign up for one of these tours between October and May for the opportunity to see dolphins and seals up close and personal. Some visitors might want to explore the area beyond Nelson, and check out Port Phillip Bay or the Bellarine Peninsula.

Why Rentals?

Visitors have a lot of choice when it comes to Great Ocean Road accommodation. Properties in Nelson have the added bonus of river views, amping up your relaxation. Choose rentals with outdoor decks complete with barbeques and cozy seating. These properties have the added bonus of a private kitchen, laundry facilities, and spacious living areas.

After a long day of fishing and kayaking, Nelson holiday rentals offer a comfortable place to return to. Spend quality time with your family in the evening while watching the sunset over the Glenelg River.

Outstanding holiday house

5 of 5
From the moment we walked in our family was amazed by the understated luxury of this home. Not only is it beautifully designed and furnished but there is literally nothing the owners haven’t thought of to make your stay as comfortable as is possible. Our teenage girls loved the large beds and TVs in their rooms (not like home) and we just loved sitting on the deck overlooking the river. On our first day we hired a boat from the very friendly Brad from Nelson boat hire - going up the river is a must with the stunning limestone cliffs. The barbecue and even the gourmet kitchen are perfect for the evening meals as there isn’t a great deal in Nelson itself. This was such a relaxing family holiday to a part of Australia we’d never ventured to before but because of this stunning house we will definitely return. Thank you Kellie and Pat for your helpful and friendly correspondence. You are the epitome of the perfect holiday home owners. We look forward to returning.
