Noosa North Shore - The Land ‘Down Under’
This is a breathtakingly beautiful part of the world and classed as the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef which most of us have heard of. From the beauty of the mountains and the National Park to the exquisite beaches that go on for miles, Noosa has the most protected of bays (called Laguna) where most water sports and fishing are on offer in plenty.
In this vicinity too is the Australia Zoo which was run by the world famous Steve Irwin. Now run by his wife and daughter, try a day out here and listen to their ever enthusiastic banter about all the animals they take care of. Kids will love this place and they can get up close and personal with giant turtles, other gross looking animals and even elephants.
Surfing, naturally, is one of the mainstay sports here and the bay offers some great surf. Or take a hike through Noosa Wood and end up in Spit River Road Beach which culminates in Sandy Cove. Don’t forget the camera because the area is extremely scenic and there are many different species of birds to be seen here.
Fraser Island is a World Heritage Site and is famous for its many-coloured sands. Here too is a rainforest with more bird species to spot. Apparently, Captain Cook sped past this largest sand island in the world for better places. However, one visit will set holiday makers to wondering why on earth he did not land here. On the island are more than one hundred fresh-water lakes. You can laze on these beaches as well if you so wish but watch out for the local pure bred dingoes.
There are all kinds of day excursions in the general area. One of the favourites is the boat trips which ply the Noosa River. Some are very stylish and classic 1940s style powerboats and carry families along the river to explore the lakes beyond. A great choice for a romantic liaison too!
Why not try the Equathon Horse Riding adventure for something a little bit different? This offers riders the chance to look at the surrounding landscape from a different perspective. Ride along the beaches or go on a horseback safari over several nights. These packages include accommodation and food is always available at very reasonable costs.
No holiday maker that visits Noosa and its environs could fail to visit Hastings Street. This is where all the tourists and locals gather to shoot the breeze and do their shopping. Everything is available here from up-market boutique style designer shops on downwards. Traveling towards the end of the street, holiday makers can carry on to the National Park and all it has to offer.
Also in the area is the Noosa Golf Club which is handy for those who want to go a round or two. For the lady of the house there are many different spas and massage places dotted here and there where she can relax and get some beauty treatments. Cool for a great birthday gift or anniversary surprise!
