Whenever anyone thinks of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland visions of bronzed surfers and plenty of water sports spring to mind. Yes, these are there in plenty, but there are also some other wonderful pursuits too if the holiday maker is looking for some action.
In the general area of Noosa lies Noosa Sound which is the up-market section of some rather exclusive residences. Those looking for somewhere to stay will be presented with a great range of choices from rental cottages to upmarket holiday townhouses.
Built amongst the wonderfully natural setting of islands and small rivers, it offers up easy access to the posh shopping areas in Hastings Street and Noosaville. Here you will find the beach, which just happens to be many miles long, and Noosa National Park which has koalas and all kinds of other wild life. The Noosa River Esplanades is also within easy walking distance so there is always something to see or do here.
This whole area sits on the magnificent Laguna Bay on the north end of the coast. Since it faces northwards, the whole bay is protected from storms etc. No matter that this area attracts more than two million tourists a year, swimming and other water sports are a dream here. In fact, the bay is really family oriented because there are no rip tides to speak of and even those who are quite weak swimmers will be able to enjoy the water.
If it is fishing that is the favourite hobby, the National Park offers some of the best spots for this. At the Noosa River mouth, and Woods Bay, just off the main beach area, the water carries in food for all kinds of fish so this is also a good spot to angle when the fish come to feed. Of course, those that don’t fish will be adequately entertained feeding the sleepy koalas or watching the kangaroos and anything else that ambles by.
The really adventurous might try a hot air balloon flight at dawn. From Brisbane and the surrounding areas, these exciting trips start with the holiday maker witnessing the balloon being inflated. This is an awesome site for sure because an inflated balloon stands ten stories tall! Then the visitors can hop on board for a silent (almost) ride floating above the hinterland of the Gold Coast. The earth looks truly spectacular at dawn so don’t forget to take the camera along.
After one hour of floating, the balloon comes down and visitors are given the choice of going back to their holiday accommodation or taking a visit to a place like O’Reilly’s Grand Homestead & Boutique Vineyard. Here, everyone gets a slap up breakfast that only Australians know how to prepare. Guests can be dropped off at theme parks or their point of origin on the way back but it is best to organize this at the time of booking. This is an extremely early start so an overnight stay in Brisbane is probably the best thing to do.
As one would expect, Noosa Sound has luxurious accommodation at every turn. There are holiday homes fit for even the fussiest of tastes and holiday villas too. On the lower end of the scale, and all within easy travelling distance, there are holiday rentals in Noosa and the surrounding areas which consist of anything from serviced apartments to campsites and caravans. In fact, even backpackers are catered for so this truly is a place that welcomes anyone.
