This was a really wonderfully designed and generously sized townhouse in a glorious part of Sydney, with absolutely beautiful and uplifting views, lots of light and lovely cool breezes blowing through, even on the very hot days. There is no air conditioning, but with ceiling fans in the rooms and those delicious harbour breezes, it doesn’t need any. The townhouse itself is apparently lived in full time throughout the year by the owners, who are justifiably proud of their gracious home and particularly about their possessions. The owners had vacated the house a couple of days prior to our arrival and it appears as if they had been the ones to clean and prepare the accommodation for our arrival, even though the holiday letting of this property is managed by a property agent host. Many of the cupboard doors were chained and padlocked shut or had sticky tape across the doors to discourage them from being opened. A lot of the tables and dressers that are pictured in the online property photos were covered in sheets or old vinyl cloths and the towels that were provided seemed a little shabby for the level of the accommodation. The townhouse did have a bit of a “lived-in” feel and a musty smell that some in my family disliked (though I got used to it), and some of the fixtures were looking quite old or needed to be fixed. Of particular inconvenience were the sliding doors onto the outdoor areas, which were jammed and could barely be opened. This was disappointing as the patio leading off one of the doors had breathtaking views and we wanted to use it all the time! We did feel that, for the level and price of the accommodation, some other issues also needed to be improved upon, such as the following items that were not provided when we first arrived: no wineglasses (only a few plastic ones could be found), no kitchen knives (only two small paring knives), no DVD player, no top sheets on the (admittedly very comfortable) beds - only thick duvets were provided to sleep under in the hot summer evenings! Also, as we stayed for nearly 3 weeks, I was keen to keep the house tidy and wanted to vacuum, but the vacuum cleaner was an ancient and ineffective thing with most of the handle pipe missing, meaning that I had to vacuum moving along on my knees. At this point I would like to commend the property agent/host, Anthony. He was extremely responsive when we informed him of the above issues. This unit is very well located, with nearby buses travelling frequently in all directions - the CBD is about 10 minutes away by bus. Also, Rozelle is a great neighbourhood with groceries, chemist, banks, post office, coffees, restaurants, wine shop, kitchen shop* ... all within easy walking distance. I thought I had booked unit #5 at the back of the building, but instead was given #6, which overlooks Darling St. Surprisingly, it wasn't noisy. The unit itself is quite new, spacious, well fitted out and clean. The only downside is that the common areas - the footpath leading to the building entry, the stairs and halls - are not kept very clean. It is expensive accommodation for a long term stay, but I would consider booking again for my next Sydney visit.
