Sandy Point is coastal township at the entrance of a thin peninsula that fronts both Waratah Bay and Shallow Inlet with its neighbouring wetlands. If you’re keen on exploring Wilsons Promontory National Park, Sandy Point is an ideal base to see all there is to see of the natural attractions in the park.
This cute township situated in breathtaking beauty has a small commercial centre which features a cafe, general store, mini golf and real estate office. The township is separated from the beach by rolling sand dunes which make up the Sandy Point Foreshore Reserve. The wide expanses of sand with the mountains creating an attractive backdrop make for a popular swimming and surfing spot which is patrolled by the local life saving club.
The other side of the town near Shallow Inlet with its compacted sand allows visitors to drive their vehicles right out onto the beach to the water's edge; it’s the perfect place to a picnic or evening meal. This area is also popular with windsurfers, with the sailing's world speed record being set there. If you’re after a bit of fun, climbing the sand dunes for a workout and breathtaking views is a must!
With a remarkably temperate climate throughout the year, Sandy Point has the average low only getting down to 11 degrees and highs reaching 18 degrees Celsius.
