Holiday Accommodation in Sunset Strip, Phillip Island, Australia
Being the closest seaside suburb to the legendary Grand Prix Circuit, it may come as a surprise that the quaint holiday town of Sunset Strip is considered to be on the quieter side of Philip Island. Holiday accommodation throughout the area is in close proximity to Smiths Beach, but without the masses of people, and just a few minutes’ drive from the Penguins, whom ‘’parade’’ everyday, down the boardwalk, as they make their way back to their nesting area at night, and it is a sight to behold for all ages. Holiday rentals are in abundance, with the major international Superbike and V8 Motor and motorcycle racing events happening on Phillip Island every year, you can choose from luxury holiday villas to self catering holiday apartments.
Things to See and Do
Sunset Strip could almost be unbeatable in terms of how perfect the region is for a family holiday. Many of the self catering apartments are pet friendly, and fully kitted out with all the bells and whistles a family would need to keep everyone from Granny to the little ones occupied and entertained. Play areas and parks are safe for kids to enjoy, and Smiths Beach is in walking distance, so if sandcastles are the order of the day, you don’t have to pack everyone in the car to get there.
Surfing, is obviously a very popular choice of outdoor activity, and for those who have never experienced the thrill of the waves before, there are plenty of patient and suntanned surf instructors all along the beach who will be able to give lessons to real beginners or even help a more experienced surfer brush up on his surf style for the summer. All the details of the surfboard hire, costs and location, will be available in your information leaflets in your Sunset Strip holiday accommodation.
You can also hire bicycles, kayaks and snorkeling equipment near Smiths Beach, so you don’t have to pack in lots of extra luggage and you won’t have to drag boards and paddles backwards and forwards from your holiday rental, down to the beach every time you want to use something. Many of the holiday homes are so close to the beach you could even hire a boat or a jet ski for the time that you are there, as there is plenty of space right on the beach and the facilities are excellent.
If riding along the coast on a genuine Harley Davidson is on the top of your bucket list, be prepared to cross it off on Phillip Island. An out of this world original tour on the back of an authentic Munster or Red Harley, will take you around the island or even down the Bass Coast on tour, pack a picnic lunch for something extra special. What is even better is that they supply everything, gloves, helmets, jackets, wet weather gear and kit you out from head to toe! Imagine the photos to show when you get home!
The temperate seaside climate of Phillip Island is a winter rainfall area, so during the months between May and September, the air temperature is a cool 14 C, with the most rain falling during the month of June. The fresh sea breeze keeps the temperatures down in summer, with the hottest month being February, where temperatures climb a little higher than the usual average of 28 C. The climate is wonderful all year round, but Sunset Strip will definitely be its busiest during Superbike and Grand Prix Season.
Getting there from the UK
The best way to get to Sunset Strip on Phillip Island is to fly into the closest city, which is Melbourne. It is recommended that you pre-book your car hire, as during race season, you could come up short with so many people flooding into the island for racing events. Pick up your car and enjoy the picturesque drive along the Bass Coast Region, and a mere 90 minutes later, you will find yourself at the front door of your holiday villa, self catering holiday apartment or holiday cottage by the sea.
