Tilba Tilba is one of two heritage protected villages on the South Coast of NSW. The other, Central Tilba, just a couple of minutes to its north. Both these villages have received National Trust protection owing to their unique historic value. Tilba Tilba is a five-hour drive south from Sydney and a three-hour drive east from Canberra. It offers visitors the best that nature can give in the way of national parks, lakes and beaches in fine weather and a winery, gardens, cafe's, shops and galleries, to spend time in when the weather is more inclement.
Pams Store at Tilba Tilba is an authentic old-time general store where you can still make your purchases over a vintag shop counter. You'll find it a well stocked store where you'll be able to buy nearly everything you'll need during your stay.
Behind Pams Store there's a track that'll take you up the mountain, Gulaga, otherwise known as Mt Dromedary. It'll take you the best part of half a day so it'll be a good idea to stock up with some provisions from Pams Store before starting. Near the top you'll experience passing through a fairyland like rainforest. The track is quite steep in places but you won't want any special hiking equipment other than a sturdy pair of shoes or boots. Make sure you take your camera to snap some of the spectacular shots from the summit.
A rocky outcrop on the ocean side of Gulaga is known as Najanuga or Little Dromedary. It's smaller than Gulaga but still an impressive climb. The stunning views of Tilba Tilba from the top make the effort quite worth while.
You'll be enchanted with the beautifully restored and well maintained period village of Tilba Tilba but you'll be absolutely amazed when you visit the three and a half acres of garden at Foxglove Spires. This enchanting property has been featured on the 'Burke's Backyard' TV show and many others such as 'Better Homes and Gardens.' It has also been the subject of a book 'Velvet Pears'. This spectacular garden has the charm of English elegance, a fairy tale feel about it but most of all it's very romantic, particularly where the Willow House overlooks the duck pond.
The ABC cheese factory opened in Central Tilba in 1891. It's the first co-operative cheese company in the state and it's still in production. Tastings are on offer at the factory which is famous for its Tilba Club Cheese, Applebox Smoke, Tilba Vintage and Tilba Gold.
Tilba Tilba accommodation for holidaymakers consists of Tilba Tilba holiday rentals situated among striking landscapes and a rolling countryside, from where you can enjoy both ocean and mountain views from the foothills of Gulaga. It's a holiday destination you can confidently book for any time of the year because the activities around the area are so diverse. Holidaying in South Coast accommodation, such as a holiday rental, is far more spacious and homely than that in a cramped, more expensive hotel room.
