OK, the house is very nice, gorgeous setting, lots of fruit trees and palms around(we picked some limes from a tree nearby for Cuba Libres). Yocasty is really very very helpful, arranges everything you want and tries to even get you a good deal if you want to take a boat to town, fishing trip, etc. Although the price the locals ask is a bit much. For a 4 hr fishing trip initially we were asked $200, but ended up paying $120. Jerardo, who was taking care of the house and cleaned the pool is the guy to ask to get some fresh seafood and minor supplies(rum... we run out..).We paid about$30 for two nice lobsters and three fresh fish which he cleaned for us. If you don't speak spanish, you might have some problems communicating with locals, but Yocasty is there to help.
The beach is very nice, although you gotta be a little careful as the waves are strong and there are some rocks here and there. The best spot is the very far right of the beach(if you're facing the ocean). There's a bit of a break from waves and its private. If you got kids, or not a strong swimmer its the best place to go.
Hike to Rincon Beach was nice(Jerardo took us there and then came back to take us back). The restaurant there was just Ok though. Lobster was good, but ocean perch wasn't all that fresh we thought. On the way there you get to see a couple of small beaches, very nice.
Now on to other suggestions.. Don't go if you can't enterntain yourself. For us peace and quiet was exactly what we wanted and we'll go back as soon as we can. Bring some CD's and DVD's for evening, they only got a couple in the house and radio doesn't always pick up a station. Expect bugs and mosquitoes, so bring repellant. Bring more cash than you think is absolutely necessary, everything costs quite a bit. Try to learn at least some basics in spanish, it will help. BBQ is not what you have in N. America; you actually have to build a fire.Put EVERYTHING in the fridge, inc. bread, etc. If you don't, microscopic ants get into food. And if its ruined, you can't just run up to a corner store. DO stare at the sky at night:), its unbelievable.. and they got those bugs that glow flying around. You can request for service people to show up every second day; we did as we wanted more privacy. The town of Las Galeras is small.Italian store there is good for sandwich meat, etc. Cabs are VERY expensive.
Well, altogether its a great place and my wife and I definetely recommend it.
