The mountainside town of Bedugul is an excellent way to test your fitness levels. There’s loads to do here, so don’t worry about having a dull moment. Hop on a bike and trudge along a winding mountain road or try to catch your breath as you hike up a treacherous mountain trail. Walk along the quaint town roads and chat up with a local. And if you’re into water sports then head to Lake Bratan, one of the three lakes in the region. Water skiing, sailing, canoeing and kayaking are just some of the water adventure sports that are up for grabs here. To cool off, take a quiet nap as you try fishing and soak in the tranquility. Wander around town and you will discover one of the most beautiful water temples in Bali, Pura Ulun Danu Bratan. The significance of this temple is the stupas of the figures of Buddha that show him sitting in the lotus position. These stupas symbolically imply an acceptance of Buddhist beliefs by Balinese Hindus. To view a fantastic collection of 320 orchids that are indigenous to Bali make sure you also visit the lush Botanical Gardens inaugurated in 1959.

The capital city of Denpasar has much to explore and is about an hour’s journey down south of the island. To get a true feel of Bali and learn about its rich cultural heritage, visit the Bali National Museum. From Balinese embroidery to items from the Neolithic period, the collection on display is extensive. The displays of the Royal throne and Royal shower are quite a sight and can be found in three beautiful buildings. Make sure you don’t miss out on the Academy of Indonesian Dance. You will get a unique opportunity to watch the pupils as they rehearse traditional dances and practice instruments in the morning. To get a real experience of the celebration of Balinese culture, attend the evening recital by the pupils.
The tropical climate of Bedugul is perfect for a visit at anytime as the temperatures will always be on the higher side. To experience a sunny holiday without, rain you could choose to visit between April and November that records a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius. Mild showers occur in the wet season between the months of December and March. Do note that the mountainside town of Bedugul is at lower temperature than the plains because of its altitude.
The starting point of your Bedugal Holiday would be Denpasar International Airport (DPS) in Bali. Do bear in mind that though there are no direct flights from the UK, you can choose a connecting flight from a number of Air Operators that will give you good deals.
