Read what a traveller has to say about Borneo!
After receiving many enthusiastic post cards from my friends recommending that my next overseas trip should be spent in Kutching (the capital city of Sarawak, Borneo), I arrived there after booking the same trip as they did through HomeAway to discover that this city seems to have a cat obsession!
After being titled as "The City of Cats" there are various cat monument statues scattered about the city. I went off to explore in a large market area and it was there that I noticed that a cat seemed to be following me! On closer inspection his orange fur with black markings seemed to come to life from a postcard that I had just purchased of the main statue!
Being Gawai Harvest celebration day seafood stalls were busy. The cat was still walking beside me when suddenly he leapt up and stole a large fish that had just been cooked for my lunch. The stall owner just chuckled and said "That was Jinx, the smartest and quickest cat in Kutching." Over the coming days I took many action photos of this Jinx who was still pilfering many fishes from the market. They are now a lovely reminder of a very special Kutching kitty cat!
See what another traveller has to say about Malaysia!
Malaysia is a great destination for families and we had the best time holidaying there! We could have just stayed at the holiday rental, swimming, bowling, eating and yachting on the South China Sea.
But we ventured out and saw Orangutans and Proboscis monkeys, beautiful flowers, mountains and waterfalls - so many wonderful sights. Great food, lovely people and fantastic accommodation.
We took our two sons on this great adventure because our youngest son was keen to see Orangutans in the wild. He had read about the wildlife sanctuaries in Borneo, where the Orangutans are protected, and wanted to visit such a sanctuary. It was certainly a fantastic experience for all of us. We were also lucky enough to see quite a few of the endangered proboscis monkeys during a river trek.
One afternoon we were checking out the yachts moored at the local yacht club when we met a group of sailors about to head out for a race. We stopped to chat and they invited our elder son (a keen sailor in Australia) to join them. They lent him a boat and he not only had the best time ever, he won the race.
We sat by the pool sipping cocktails and watching the race as the sun set, magnificent. We have had many family adventures but this one will stand out for all of us forever.
