Enjoying the Perfect Holiday Rental in New Zealand’s South Island

The beautiful South Island of New Zealand is a feast for the eyes. The place offers a number of attractions varying from far-stretched landscapes to snow-peaked mountains. The island is encircled by the enchanting Southern Alps that separate two coastal plains on the east and west. The place is blessed with sparkling sunshine during the summer, which is the best time to bask in the glory of the secluded beaches located here. Winters blanket the South Island in glistening snow, a time when visitors flock the place for unlimited skiing. A South Island holiday rental would be the best way to enjoy your holiday.

Things to do

South Island is a place that offers an incomparable mix of outdoor fun and activities that are rejuvenating and relaxing. The main attractions of the place are aimed at holiday makers exploring the natural wealth and beauty of the place; and, having a lot of fun outdoors. One of the most famous and cherished pastimes of visitors who come here is cycle tours. The undisturbed and quiet roads here are an absolute delight to ride through. As long as one is not riding through the Southern Alps, the roads are amazingly smooth and flat.

A great way of spending you holidays in New Zealand South Island is trying out its most popular sport, skiing. Snowboarding and skiing can be enjoyed best at the resorts around Queenstown and Wanaka, which have been blessed with endless backcountry that can be explored with help of a local guide.

One can never complain of a lack of activities whilst in South Island. Your time here will zip through without any trace of exhaustion as you try a number of fun-filled activities. Some of the main outdoor attractions of a New Zealand South Island property include walking, cycling, mountain biking, bungee jumping, and sky diving. One of the most thrilling experiences here, undoubtedly, will be mountain cycling. The adventure will leave you gasping for more of the surrounding beauty. Fly fishing, white water rafting and paragliding are some more activities that give the adrenalin rush in this place.

Those who would prefer spending a relaxed time here can look forward to visiting the wineries. The northern region of South Island, around Marlborough Sound has some exquisite vineyards. Landscapes of Fjordland and Milford Sound that can be explored if venturing further south.

Places to visit

The places worth visiting in South Island surely are too many to start simply penning down. And, not to forget, all these places offer an incomparably amazing view that can’t be found elsewhere. Christchurch, the largest city of South Island, is located half-way down the east-coast. The city is also known as the Garden City of South Island. The city is bustling with festivals, theatrical performances and international exhibitions all the year round. Queenstown is known as the adrenaline capital of the world.

Weather

The South Island enjoys a temperate climate, with cozy warm summers (December, January and February) and extremely cold winters (June, July and August). Summers see temperatures rising more than 25 degrees Celsius while winters are freezing cold. Holiday makers flock to New Zealand especially for skiing during winters.

Getting There

The Christchurch International Airport (CHC) is half way down the east coast of South Island. You can fly there direct from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. You can also fly into Queenstown direct from Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.

Read what one of our travellers had to say about South Island!

We decided to plan a trip to the South Island of New Zealand. We researched and gathered as much information as we could. We set a budget and our holiday plans were slowly taking shape. The passport process was commenced. Each group was to hire a camper and we starting mapping out our route and listing all the must see and do things while we were there. Flights booked and paid.

The communication between us and the excitement was increasing. What to pack for the weather, the driving times between locations fitting in the tourist must see spots.

Finally the time had arrived and we were at the airport. This was to be our first holiday outside of Australia. We landed in Christchurch and headed off to collect our campers. Our adventures about to begin, the scenery was breathtaking.

The people were friendly and helpful. Throughout our trip, we met fellow travellers and swapped stories and places that we thought were worth visiting and others that did not meet expectations. We got lost and had to backtrack a few times only to find a special place and create a terrific memory.

We started with so many plans and finished the trip with not all places on our list visited. But our whole time away was full of fun, laughter, and so many memories. With a promise to go again and finish off our list of things to do and see on the South Island, we headed home after three weeks. I recommend this type of holiday/break for anyone that often thinks it is all too hard to do, we had an absolute terrific time and are hoping to head back that way real soon....

Great property for seclusion

This was an excellent property.

5 of 5
This was an excellent property. 1 km walk to town along the lake and gardens. Bus route 11 just up on Frankton Rd for access to airport and remarkables shopping area. The unit is spacious, extremely well heated, comfy bed and well kitted out kitchen. Good strong pressure and hot water in shower. I would highly recommend it and would love to stay again.
