The Many Pleasures of a Holiday Rental Home or a Villa in the South Coast of Sri Lanka

Off the southern coast of the Indian subcontinent lies the country of Sri Lanka. The experience of a holiday rental home, or rather a villa, along the south coast of the country is one of the must-dos in this spectacular region. The South Coast boasts pockets of wide beaches and the best of snorkeling reefs. Immerse yourself in sand or splash the waves away, this experience will be one in a lifetime. The South Coast of Sri Lanka has stunning sandy coves that can be enjoyed at peace whilst the generic tourists flock towards the west coast. This coast stretches for 130 kilometers with picturesque beauty. Make sure to charge your cameras fully to capture this beauty for a long time to come.

Discovery and Adventure are Galore While you are in South Coast

With blazing sunshine, chilling coolers, reggae music, and garlands to wear; it will be a party all day, all night in the South Coast. The coast is not overly crowded, giving you just the perfect balance of solitude and enjoyment. Sit under a palm tree and slump your back towards the sun on a beach, or try a variety of activities like surfing and scuba diving. The waters of the South Coast beaches have perfect temperature, safe and just warm enough to enjoy a relaxing swim.

Visit the Unawatuna Reef, which is home to a plethora of fauna that can give the Great Barrier Reef a run for its money. Inland, the South Coast of Sri Lanka is home to the two most important national parks on the island. The Yala West National Park is the ideal place to hike and enjoy the true colors of what the island has to offer. You can even take up residence in a tree-top house in the park for an eco-friendly stay. Situated on the edge of the park is Sri Lanka’s holiest temple, the Kataragama, a Hindu Temple is no less than a divine experience. It is best visited in July and August during the full moon when the Perahera festival takes place.

Another one of fabulous places to visit on the South Coast is “Galle” which is Sri Lanka’s most impressive town. Once a major port, Galle shows its colonial Dutch and Portuguese history by examples of defensive walls built by the Dutch, which protected the city from the worst of the tsunami. Galle offers visitors a sensational amount of entertainment and places of interest to explore. A holiday home or villa in Galle is an ideal place that will enable a perfect experience with the vast interiors of this island nd excellent access to both the Uda Walawe Game Park and the Sinharajah Rain Forest.

There are beaches aplenty with safe swimming and world class scuba diving on the island. The Sri Lankans love food and thus there are a bunch of small restaurants that surround the beach and serve the finest of Sri Lankan cuisine at very low prices.

The Weather in South Coast

The main tourist season in Sri Lanka is from December until March, with an average temperature of 30 degrees. Being under the tropical zone, the mercury does not waver much. The rainy season occurs during the British summertime, typically April to October.

Reaching the Sri Lankan Coast

There are numerous flights schedules from London to Sri Lanka, Bandaranaike International Airport (also referred to as the Colombo International Airport-CMB). Sri Lankan Airways provide the majority of flights, and upon arrival, you are faced with numerous transfer options available at extremely practical rates.

Etamba House is the perfect place to stay for a trip to the south coast, and a far better

5 of 5
Etamba House is the perfect place to stay for a trip to the south coast, and a far better alternative to high end luxury resorts. The house and garden are thoughtfully designed and beautifully appointed - a true oasis; and the service, including delicious Sri Lankan cuisine, exceptional. Thank you Antony and Nala, Lara, Shashi, Sanjeev and all who looked after us so well. We hope to return!

Great relaxing spot for a family or group holiday

5 of 5
We have just returned from a great relaxing family holiday, staying at Serendip. The place was very clean, well maintained and has all amenities we needed and was a large and comfortable space. We didn't want to come back... The location is a 5 minute walk from Hikkaduwa beach which has a number of good restaurants and bars. Rickshaws and taxi's are available when you want to travel further and are really reasonable. The bedrooms are all off off of the main living area which has a large dining table, internet access and TV, DVD and CD player. Air con throughout the villa is good and not overpowering. The kitchen is a good size, has a washing machine and all you would expect in a kitchen is here. Helpfully, towels are supplied and are plentiful making packing easier. The pool is a lovely respite from the heat, and coconut trees provide some shade in this area, dappled sunlight comes through but fierce sun is avoided. A bird of Paradise visits at about 4pm every day! John had provided us with all the information we would need and was friendly and helpful throughout the booking process. He was patient with us when we tried to organise things from both India and the UK. We were greeted at the airport warmly by manager Sarath, who was very capable, relaxed and helpful throughout our stay. He left us his BBQ when we bought fish from the harbour, delivered food from the hotel for us in a rickshaw (which is really helpful when you have a 1 year old baby)! and sent us in the right direction for everything we needed. For anyone who chooses to stay in the villa, I would say you could trust that you are getting the best service and best deal from Sarath. And he does great rice curry! Even the night watchman was helpful.. I would reccomend this holiday for anyone who wants peace with access to bars and restauarants and a relaxed beach holiday. We travelled with a 1 year old who had a great time and made good use of the shady verandah and pool. There is very little I could add about the villa in terms of improvement...the efforts made to help us were great. The inclusion of a travel cot and highchair would have topped it all off well, but this is a totally personal requirement! Well done to John, Yin and Sarath for providing a great spot with the personal attention you would expect from a resort style set up without being intrusive. Thanks for letting us stay.
