Aussies making the beaches and bays a priority for upcoming Australia Day long weekend

Beach houses favoured over country cottages this summer as Australians look to spend the extra day off by the water

SYDNEY, 22 January, 2018: Stayz, Australia’s most popular holiday rental website, has released the list of the 10 destinations that have currently received the highest number of bookings for the upcoming long weekend. As the most popular locations across the country were coastal towns, it’s evident that Aussies consider the best way to spend a short summer break is by the beach.

Relaxing by the ocean at the heart of summer long weekends

Plenty of Aussies are looking forward to spending the upcoming Australia Day long weekend keeping cool by the water. Cowes in southern Victoria received the highest number of holiday home bookings through Stayz and the popular Phillip Island township was also the location that took out the top spot for the most bookings received over the Christmas break.

“Renting a shack by the beach has been a proud Australia Day tradition for many years. Aussies still love a beach holiday and they know there is no better way to spend the day with friends and family,” said Simone McDermid, PR and Communications Manager at Stayz. “The beach is part of Australia’s DNA and we see no sign of that changing anytime soon, with places like Phillip Island, Nelson Bay and Byron Bay being the most popular destinations this Australia Day long weekend,” McDermid added.

The one exception that is bucking the coastal trend on the list of most-booked destinations is the picturesque alpine town of Bright in Victoria’s wine and high country. “We have also seen that Aussies are starting to look at non-beach destinations for the Australia Day long weekend, in particular city and regional breaks,” McDermid said.
