Queenstown Winter Festival
There's no better time of year to have a party than in winter, and the Queenstown Winter Festival is the best winter party you'll find. The event takes place from 19 June to 28 June 2015. It's one of the best reasons you'll find to visit Queenstown, but definitely not the only one.
Celebrate WinterThe Queenstown Winter Festival is an event that spreads throughout the entire city. Block parties, fireworks displays, parades and entertainers are all just a part of the huge event. Approximately 45,000 will attend the festival this year. Each night will offer something different, from entertainment like races and competitions to stunning visual displays. Every member of the family will find something to enjoy during the festival, but Queenstown has a lot to offer year-round.
Ride Up the SlopesIf you don’t want to ski down the mountains, you could always float up them. Go to the top of Bob’s Peak to find the Skyline Queenstown complex. You’ll take a Gondola cableway up to the peak. While there, try the taste of New Zealand buffet and enjoy the amazing views.
Go Beneath the LakeSome of the best scenery in Queenstown isn’t found on top of a mountain — it’s under the lake. Go to the Underwater Observatory to get an amazing view of the lake from six huge windows. Trout, ducks and eels all live here, so be sure to keep your camera handy.
Have a BurgerIf you like burgers, you’ve got to stop by Fergburger. It’s one of the most unusual eateries in Queenstown, and one of the most interesting burger joints you’ll find. Delicious burgers like the Bun Laden and Cockadoodle Oink are on the menu.
Jump off a CliffQueenstown is well-known for its adventure activities. Adrenalin junkies will find no shortage of bungee jumping, river adventure, mountain biking and full-on physical activity. But if you’re looking for something truly thrilling (and terrifying), try the Shotover Canyon Swing. You’ll jump from a cliff top platform above the Shotover River to free fall 60 metres right past the rocky cliff walls. There are over 70 different tandem and solo jump styles to choose from to customize your experience.
Stay Close to the Activity
With new events happening on every night of the Queenstown Winter Festival, you won’t want to miss a minute. Don’t waste a bunch of time travelling back and forth to a crowded hotel room. For about the same amount of money, get a holiday rental. Rent a luxury apartment in the heart of the city or maybe a private residence with its own pool. If privacy is what you like, rent a quiet home with a stunning mountain view. Stay close to the events, and you won’t miss a thing.
Visit Queenstown for the Winter Festival and stay for all the other fun and excitement the city has to offer. Gorgeous nature, great views, adventure, winter … Queenstown really does have it all.
