Australian Longboard Surfing Open
Held over five days, the Australian Longboard Surfing Open celebrates the exciting lifestyle of surfing. This event attracts premier surfers from around the world including Jen Smith, Taylor Jensen, Harley Ingleby, Josh Constable, and many others.
The Original 'Malfunction' Event
The original Longboard Surfing Open began in 1984 as an event called Malfunction, designed to be a contest where like-minded surfers could get together for a friendly competition. The first event brought surf legends from the '50s and '60s back into the spotlight.
During the subsequent years, the event changed with the times and with it came the Australian Longboard Surfing Open, a five-day festival that highlights not only surfers, but the rich lifestyle of surfing. During the event, you’ll have the opportunity to see both professionals and amateur surfers compete.
The main focus of this event is to promote surfing as a healthy and enjoyable sport for amateurs, as well as professionals.
Soak in the Surfing Lifestyle
In addition to the surfing events, you and your group can enjoy the surfing lifestyle through events showcasing cars, movies, and music. In addition, there are market stalls and presentations to visit, as well as the well-known bikini parade. You can even enjoy learning to surf through the learn-to-surf clinic or learn how to cook with the local flavours.
So Much to See and Do
The festival also encourages visitors and surfers to visit the beautiful Tweed Coast, as well as presenting Kingscliff as a wonderful surfing destination. Kingscliff is located in Tweed, which is located in the caldera of an ancient volcano. The area runs from Byron Bay to the spectacular Gold Coast.
Add to your surf holiday and take in adventurous water sports such as paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling, and fishing. The area also provides the opportunity for horseback riding, cycling, and more. In addition to the Surfing Open, the area has festivals and concerts such as the Tyalgum Festival of Classical Music and the Blues Fest.
Make sure that you have a fully appointed holiday rental to return to after a full day of activities. Find Kingscliff rentals at rates that won't break your holiday budget. You’ll find that these types of accommodations are generally less expensive than a hotel stay. In addition, you and your group will enjoy features such as a full kitchen, multiple living spaces, and much more.
With comfortable accommodations and so much to do and see, your holiday is sure to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
