Australian Surfing Awards
If you can tear yourself away from the waves, throw on some formal wear and cap off your adventures at the Australian Open of Surfing, by attending the Australian Surfing Awards event. The 2015 awards ceremony will be held on February 14 and is annually touted to feature the who's who of Australian surfing stars.
First held in 1985 by the famous Australian Surfriders Association - now known as Surfing Australia - the Australian Surfing Awards strive to preserve the rich history of surfing in Australia. Additionally, these awards honour this exciting sport's greatest athletes and achievers. Each year these awards incorporate inductees into the Hall of Fame - those who have made significant contributions to Australia's surfing world.
Surfing Award Categories
Not only do these awards recognise surfers, but also those are involved in surfing events, movies, travel, clubs, and the pioneers of new initiatives. Award categories of the Australian Surfing Awards include:

- ASB Surfing Spirit Award
- Peter Troy Lifestyle Award
- Surf Culture Award
- Simon Anderson Club Award

Hall of Fame
One of the main highlights of the evening is always the presentation of the newest inductees into The Surfing Awards Hall of Fame. Recipients of this honour include premier surfers and other contributors to Australia's surfing community.
Among the honorees is Snow McAllister who is considered to be the 'father of Australian surfing' and was the first inductee, receiving an award honour in 1985. The 2012 inductee was Ross Clarke-Jones, considered by many to be the current heart and sould of today's Australian big-wave surf scene.
