What To Expect At The Sydney Mardi Gras Parade
The Sydney Mardi Gras Parade is an exciting, colourful celebration for the LGBT community. Over 9,000 people take part in the parade possession as it makes its way down Oxford and Flinders Streets.
Spectators are treated to a variety of entertainment and live performances that are held during The Sydney Mardi Gras Parade. Highlights of the parade include the Dykes on Bikes, the Asian marching boys, and various gay and lesbian pride groups from businesses, universities and other organizations all over Sydney.
Join in the fun and celebration as the local Dykes on Bikes travel down the streets revving their engines and showing off their sleek, shiny motorcycles. Spectators can jump up and dance with the Asian marching boys. Other highlights of The Sydney Mardi Gras Parade include gay and lesbian pride student groups, representatives from the local police stations, and cultural gay and lesbian pride groups.
Where To Watch The Sydney Mardi Gras Parade
The Sydney Mardi Gras Parade starts at 7:45 p.m. Spectators line up along Oxford and Flinders Streets to watch the processions in the parade. Spectators can also watch the parade down the Darlinghurst streets.
Crowds of people line the streets in preparation for the parade. The parade lasts several hours and spectators are encouraged to prepare for the occasion by bringing snacks, drinks and dress for the weather.
Travellers who want to enhance the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade experience can choose to watch the parade from one of two viewing stations. The Glamstand is a unique parade watching set, where spectators watch the crowds march down the streets while enjoying mouth-watering food and tasty drinks.
Another parade viewing station available is the Club Tropicana. The Club Tropicana offers spectators a full VIP experience. Not only will they be treated to food and drinks, but they will be able to rub shoulders with local celebrity VIPs who are celebrating the colourful and thrilling Mardi Gras parade.
Other Mardi Gras Themed Events Throughout Sydney
In addition to The Sydney Mardi Gras Parade, the entire community of Sydney hosts other Mardi Gras themed events. The Mardi Gras Harbour Party, which is held a week before the parade, is a celebration filled with great food, dancing and lots of music.
The 2015 Mardi Gras Harbour Party will be an all-day event that will leave travellers with lasting holiday memories. Hit the dance floor while rocking out to favourite songs played by famous DJs, or enjoy the beautiful views of the Sydney Harbour. Wrap up the evening by watching a spectacular fireworks display that fills the skyline with beautiful colours and bright lights.
Travellers can also choose to take part in some of the Mardi Gras Festival events. The Mardi Gras Festival kicks off on March 7th 2015 and will feature over 60 different events. There are live performances from local opera groups, dance groups and musicians. The Mardi Gras Parade and Mardi Gras Harbour Party are considered a part of the festivities.
