Cooly Rocks On
Do you ever dream of taking a long ride in a classic car with the windows down feeling the cool breeze while you enjoy listening to Frank Sinatra and Patti Page? If you've been feeling that urge, be prepared to let that desire run wild at Cooly Rocks On, a celebration of 50s and 60s hot rod culture.
For 11 days, the best parts of the 1950s and '60s — the music, the cars, the food — are going to be out in full force and ready to fill your senses with the best that an entire era had to offer. This is a time for remembering a bygone age. Make your arrangements and get ready.
What to Expect at Cooly
From the very beginning of Cooly Rocks On, there will be lots of vintage cars of all varieties lining up on the beaches. More come out every day until the climax of the event. There will also be more than 100 booths dedicated to crafts styled after the '50s and '60s era, and 100 booths dedicated to selling cuisine reminiscent of the era. There will even be live music on stages set up all over the beach and throughout the area.
During the final weekend, the streets will close as more than a thousand cars will parade from Kirra to Tweed Heads to mark the celebration's conclusion. The outdoor stages will go inside for their final shows of the event. Even when the event ends, there are still a lot of other fun things to do in Coolangatta.
First off, the best view of most anything is from above. So if you're up for a thrill, check out Gold Coast Skydive. Headquartered in Coolangatta, it's the only company in the Gold Coast region that specializes in tandem dives. You can land right on the crisp sands of Kirra Beach, which is the kind of activity that you can tell stories about for a long time to come.
If you enjoy seeing and interacting with wildlife, you'll love the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Often called one of the best nature experiences on the east coast, you can feed the kangaroos and lorikeets, see a croc show, and even check out the Wildnight Adventure Tour that takes you through the park during the night to see the critters when they're up and about.
Staying in Coolangatta
Your stay in Coolangatta doesn't have to be the usual tourist fare. Feel at home while on holiday by renting a home, which will let you be right next to the action at a very reasonable price. On top of that, it's not like a sterile hotel room that looks identical to a thousand others just like it. You can rent a real home, and you can even pretend that you're a local just out for a fun day on the town.
So if you're wanting to experience the good times of days gone by, head to Coolangatta this June for a holiday that will be the highlight of the year.
