Jazz at MONA
If you want to experience the culture of Tasmania through music and art, go to MONA to see exhibitions and performances that change on a continual basis. There are so many events and exhibitions to see that you’ll want to book a holiday rental in Tasmania for a few days to see more of it. Take a look at some of the events that are happening this year.
Theatre of the World Exhibition
In 2013, MONA hosted the Theatre of the World exhibition. It was a collection of art that conveyed dreams, used the imagination, and exuded emotion. Viewers came to realize that art is poetry and something can be pretty, even if it is simple. The exhibition was curated by Jean-Hubert Martin, in collaboration with A MONA and the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.
Jazz at MONA Performances
Jazz at MONA is an ongoing event in Tasmania in 2014. The jazz performances take place at different dates throughout the year. Musicians from the community were featured, as well as performers from around the world. The performances are held outside on the stage next to the Ether Building, unless the weather is bad, in which case the performances were moved inside the VOID.
Yannick Demmerle Exhibition at the MONA Library
Yannick Demmerle creates sketches on large works of paper that challenge people’s notions about life. His works are on display at the MONA library. He is not modest in his work at all — he tells the real story. Demmerle said, "It takes blowing off everything for your artwork … the family, money, security, happiness, friends. Are you ready to do that for yours, darling?" This is an exhibition you have to see.
Where to Stay for Events at MONA
There are cute holiday rentals throughout Tasmania that give you easy access to the exhibitions and performances at MONA. You should book one if you are planning to see a performance or visit one of the exhibitions so that you have more time to explore and enjoy yourself. The MONA is not a fast-paced place, so take your time as you look around.
So get away this year and immerse yourself in the world of art. Check out the exhibits at MONA and fine one that would make the trip worthwhile.
