Perth International Comedy Festival
Perth is well-known for its vision of unification and inspiration throughout the year, but during the Perth International Comedy Festival, this vision pulses throughout the city. The Comedy Festival aims to deliver comedy presented by some of Australia’s and the world’s best comedians, encourage new comedic acts, and present the best international comedians to its audience. In 2015, the festival takes place 20 April – 17 May.
Venues for the International Comedy Festival are usually within walking distance of one another. The Astor Theatre and Lounge hosted several acts in previous years. The Theatre first opened in 1919 and has undergone many changes and renovations to bring it back to its original state. Events held in the Astor Theatre are reserved seating and those held in the Astor Lounge are general seating.
The Velvet Lounge at The Flying Scotsman and the Yalumba Jack High Comedy Club at the Mount Lawley Bowling Club also hosted a large number of acts. All events at these venues are general seating.
The Perth International Comedy Festival presents dozens of comedic acts and special events for guests to enjoy. The highlighted events below are just a small taste of all that was 2013's plate. The details for 2015 are yet to be confirmed.
The Opening Night Gala kicked of the entire festival with a bang. Local and international comedians came together giving patrons over two hours of chuckles, giggles, and outright belly laughs. Featured performers in 2013 included Eddie Ifft, Justin Hamilton, and Paul Foot, among many others.
The International Comedy Bowls were a fantastic, free way to spend a Sunday afternoon watching comedians play lawn bowls against local media personalities. During last year’s bowl, the media personalities took the crown and are out to defend their title. Tracy Morgan, international comedic star and actor on “30 Rock” came to Australia for the first time. A well-known comedian, Tracy was sure to have audience members rolling in the aisles and clenching their sides.
Another comedic pair that were sure to rock the house: The Wayans Brothers. Shawn and Marlon Wayans have been generating laughs since the 1990s and were touring Australia for the first time. Their successful comedy movies and television shows are known across the globe. Those two were sure to deliver a side-splitting performance.
Accommodatoin in Perth during the festival will be slim. Instead of staying in an overcrowded hotel, travellers should consider a holiday rental. These private residences offer all the comforts of home without all the discomforts of a hotel. There are no noisy neighbours in the rooms next door and no worries about being the noisy neighbour if the party that started in the club continues afterward.
There are separate sleeping quarters to get away from roommates that snore. Instead of fast food, travellers can dine privately with a home cooked meal from the full-sized kitchen. Make the most of the Perth International Comedy Festival with a holiday rental.
If you're planning on a holiday to Perth, why not plan it during the comedy festival and get some laughs in while on holiday?
