Day Trips Around Brisbane
Your holiday to Brisbane is certainly full of many full and exciting adventures. If you want to escape the city for the day, take a short day trip.
If you’re longing for some relaxing time in the sun, head to Caloundra. You can paddle in the ocean, body surf, eat locally made fish and chips, sit on the beach and eat an ice cream cone or just relax in the sunshine. Caloundra is one of the closest beaches to Brisbane and can easily be driven to in a day.
If you’re headed up or down the coast, stop off at Bribie Island. You’ll cross the bridge and be transported back in time. The island is a slower pace, so take your time. You can take a cruise up Pumicestone Passage, go swimming or kayaking, or try your hand at surfing at Woorim Beach. Many people drive right past Bribie Island, but it’s worth a stop.
If you’re travelling to Brisbane in the summertime and want to escape the heat, head to the hills to Hinterland. You can explore the Maleny Dairy and see where milk comes from. Swim in the cool waters of Gardners Falls or Kondalilla Falls. Take a short walk or hike in Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve and then stop for a picnic.
Go to the Gold Coast and explore Tamborine Mountain. You can walk the easy trails of Queensland’s first national park. Stop and take a break at one of the cafes that feature local produce and stop to admire the glow worms. You can even visit the art and craft market in town for some fun souvenirs.
If you’re feeling adventurous, head to Fraser Island and take a 4WD tour. These tours are guided and will show you the Gold Coast. You’ll travel to Noosaville, see the largest sand island in the world, walk along the beautiful beaches, and head through the rainforest. You can swim in the freshwater lakes and see the wild dingoes in their natural habitat.
Great Barrier Reef
Have a close encounter with the Great Barrier Reef by taking a cruise out to see the reef. You’ll moor up next to the Reefworld, where you can choose to snorkel or dive in the reef. Tan on the sun decks and bring your camera to get some great pictures of the reef. You’ll also see the marine life, like dolphins swimming by.
Brisbane River Cruise
Stay close to the city and your holiday rental by taking a Brisbane River Dinner Cruise. This three-hour cruise will take you on a tour of the city’s landscape at night. Enjoy a delicious seafood buffet dinner and sit back and relax. There’s onboard entertainment as well, so bring your dancing shoes.
