Holidays in December
The festive season can inspire a range of December holidays. School is out, and many families plan trips to the cities to see lights and enjoy Christmas festivals. In addition, the warm summer weather is ideal for a beach escape filled with water sports and sunbathing. Barbeques, yacht racing, and Christmas season’s greetings are all great reasons to travel throughout the month of December.
Why Travel In December?
It can be easy to let the weeks before Christmas pass without celebrating the season at all. Make some memories this year by planning a trip that includes some sort of seasonal festivities. Throughout the country there are light displays, workshops to have photos taken with Santa, and Christmas themed festivals. In addition, the beach is calling with days of relaxing that are ideal for family bonding.
One of two public holidays in December is Christmas Day. If you usually celebrate at home, why not mix things up this year? With a holiday rental, your family can enjoy their regular traditions—in a new environment. Rentals are complete with kitchens for preparing family feasts and lots of space in the living room for opening presents or family game night. Most businesses are closed on Christmas Day across the country.
The second public holiday in December follows Christmas Day. Boxing Day is a continuation of the Christmas celebration and an excuse to throw a big barbeque, go shopping or watch the cricket. When you travel with friends and family, you can enjoy a barbeque right at your holiday rental. After a day of swimming and surfing on the beach, celebrate the warm summer weather with a barbeque. Keep in mind that most businesses are still closed on Boxing Day.
Sydney Hobart Yacht Race
Each year on Boxing Day the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race begins. This annual races covers more than 600 grueling nautical miles between Sydney and Hobart. Challengers from around the globe race yachts of all different sizes in this event. This is a favourite event of the year for boating enthusiasts.
There are many festivals throughout December that might encourage a holiday. To get in the Christmas spirit, attend festivals such as the Sunburnt Christmas Festival in Bondi Beach. Other season festivals are music based, including the Summer Rhythm Festival in Canberra, the Woodford Folk Festival in Woodford, or the Pyramid Rock Festival on Philip Island.
Where To Go In December
Temperatures are hot during the summer month of December, drawing people to the beaches. Whether for a weekend or a lengthy trip, many travellers opt for holiday rentals on the coast and celebrate the holidays with barbeques, picnics, and lazy days on the beach.
Other people want to make the most of the holiday season and head to the cities where festivals and decorations are centered. In Sydney, the Town Hall is decked out in a gorgeous display of Christmas lights. These displays are a particularly good match for families that want to give their kids a sense of Christmas cheer through travel.
