Time-saving tips for busy homeowners

Running your holiday rental efficiently while still giving your guests a 5-star experience – you can do both. Here are our top time-saving tips for busy homeowners.

Install a keyless lock

A keyless lock can be a great way of providing guests with easy entry to your holiday rental, without you needing to be there. Simply email the code to the guest prior to their arrival, then re-set and change the code when a new set of guests book the property! Not only does it save you time, it provides ease of access should they or any children in their group need access to the property at different times. Alternatively you can install a lockbox on the property or make arrangements with a local business where your guests can collect the keys.

Find a reliable cleaner

You want your guests to have the best possible experience at your holiday home. That being the case, you need to ensure that the cleanliness of your property is first-class for your guests’ arrival. Guests will expect your holiday rental to match or exceed the experience they had in a hotel or another holiday rental property, so it pays to find a cleaner you can rely on between guest visits. What’s more, a trustworthy cleaner can also be an excellent source of feedback about the state of your holiday home after guests leave.

To find one, start speaking to local businesses to see who they recommend or have used for their own cleaning services. Ideally, you’ll want to hire a cleaner who is available 7 days a week – your guests will arrive on different days, so you’ll need someone who’s flexible enough to meet demand.

Hire local maintenance

Your holiday home is one of your most valuable assets, so it’s understandable you want to keep it in great condition. If you live nearby you may wish to handle any minor repairs yourself, but if you’re too busy or don’t live locally, you’ll need a maintenance person to deal with spot issues quickly. Seek out a local maintenance person who can fix up any wear and tear issues that may arise. They may also be equipped to spot specific issues before they become a problem, which is handy if you don’t have time to inspect the property during busy holiday seasons.

Arrange linen for your holiday rental

Providing linen and towels is a great idea if you’re catering for domestic and international travellers. Overseas visitors expect their accommodation to be liveable on arrival and it’s unlikely they’ll be equipped with linen or towels of their own. To further save time, find a local laundry service that can collect, clean and return linen promptly between different guests, which is particularly useful if you’re handling high traffic during peak season.

Leave a welcome note for your guests

A friendly welcome note for your guests is a great way to help them enjoy your property – and politely remind them of any house rules. Let them know if there are noise restrictions, special instructions for appliances like stovetops or BBQs, plus check-out times for their final day. By providing this information upfront, you’ll likely receive fewer queries and more satisfied guests. To help round out their 5-star experience, you can even provide travel brochures and tips for local tourist attractions.
