What happens if I don’t use HomeAway’s system for communicating with guests?
We do not recommend giving travellers your email address, as the conversation will no longer be protected. If you copy and paste the email address into a new email using your email provider, any online criminal who has phished your account can see it and begin to intercept communications.
Is it more secure if I use my HomeAway dashboard?
All communications in your dashboard are more secure because they are behind a login. It’s also fine to use your personal email, as long as the email enquiries and responses have come through our secure system and have an anonymous email address. However, in the dashboard you can see travellers’ actual email addresses, and can view conversation histories. This is something you cannot do in your personal email.
Will HomeAway be monitoring my conversations?
HomeAway will use technology similar to spam filtering to monitor for suspicious patterns, viruses, malicious software and spam to help reduce phishing and spam enquiries but will not be reading your communications.
Why do some emails have an anonymous email address and some do not?
We are actively working to roll out these changes to further protect your identity. Some of the sites within the HomeAway network do not have this feature yet; therefore, email addresses will still be shown.
What should I do if I think I am being phished?
If you are suspicious of an enquiry you’ve received, please call 1300 554 367 within Australia and +61 3 8888 6110 between 8am - 6pm AET to report your concern.
